On the colonization of the ice planet Nilfheim, Mickey 17 is tasked with assisting the expedition crew, particularly with dangerous tasks. Mickey has a crucial advantage: he is replaceable. If he dies, the next clone is simply produced, possessing not only his previous memories but also the ability to seamlessly continue the work. However, when Mickey is briefly missing one day, he discovers that Mickey 18 has already been activated. Mickey 17 does not want to die, though. He must keep his clone a secret.
