Six-year-old Lilo Pelekai lives in Hawaii. What initially sounds like a paradise is anything but pleasant for the girl. She longs for a best friend more than anything else. Loneliness is a major issue for Lilo and her 18-year-old sister Nani. Their parents have already passed away, and the two have to fend for themselves. The situation changes when Lilo comes home with a new companion from the animal shelter.
