Ryland Grace wakes up aboard a spaceship, far from Earth, with no memory of his identity or the purpose of his mission. Gradually, his memories return in fragments. He discovers that he plays a crucial role in a race against time: a mysterious substance threatens the sun and, consequently, the survival of humanity. To avert a global catastrophe, Grace uses his scientific knowledge and develops unconventional solutions.
