John Davidson grows up in a small Scottish town in the early 1980s and develops pronounced nervous tics at the age of twelve. These are not diagnosed as Tourette syndrome until years later and from then on shape his everyday life. Neither at school nor at home are the uncontrolled movements and spontaneous outbursts recognized as medical symptoms; instead, he is mocked or punished. About 15 years later, John still lives with his mother and struggles with the side effects of strong medication.
