Marty is just a simple shoe salesman, but that doesn´t stop him from achieving great things in his dreams. He spends the whole day dreaming of becoming a world champion in table tennis. Or rather, he is convinced that he already belongs to the best table tennis players in the world. For him, it´s only a matter of time before his dreams become reality. He sees his big chance in a tournament for which Marty flies from New York City to London. But there, he is confronted with the harsh reality of the sport, which requires more than just self-confidence. In the final, he is defeated by the Japanese player Koto Endo. However, Marty doesn´t give up and starts saving money for the next tournament. This time, he must succeed, or else Marty might really have to stay in his uncle´s shoe store forever...

In gelb beleuchteten Räumen unter grellem Licht entfaltet sich ein Mikrokosmos aus Ritualen, Formalitäten und festgefahrenen Strukturen. Zwischen dem Geräusch von Stühlerücken und Begrüßungsfloskeln stellt sich die Frage, wie viel Raum für Ideen tatsächlich bleibt - und ob Veränderung überhaupt vorgesehen ist.
